Mark Beard
and His Circle

Most artists end up painting themselves into
a corner, doing one thing well that they dare
not stop. Mark Beard has gone the other way,
because he can.

Over the past 20 years he has invented five
artists — spanning the Belle Epoque in
19th-century Paris, through early 20th-century
“School of Eakins's" and Fauve, to 1960s con-
temporary — who are entirely fictional except
for their masterful works.

This collection reveals “newly discovered"
examples by all of them, including oils on canvas,
conticrayon life drawings, and bronze sculptures.
