| | Mark Beard: Theater Installation — A streaming video “Virtual Tour” Mark Beard has been given wide exposure in Europe, and during his career he designed several extraordinary installations there.
In 1993, for Cologne, Germany, Mark created a 75-seat theater in the Schauspielhaus. He was given a vast empty space and complete artistic freedom — which he took. His installation became a tour de force of trompe l’oeil, and satirical comment.
To the Cologne museum‘s patrons, it was so controversial, and also so beloved and defended, that the term of the exhibition was extended to almost 10 years.
Now dismantled and returned to the artist, this installation can be revisited in a video display we have created, using early photographs of the site augmented with digital reconstruction.
In this 3-minute “walk through,” the viewer will be equally impressed by the scale and provocative originality of the work, and by knowing that, just paint and canvas and board, it is all Mark’s hand.
